The American Association for Italian Studies (AAIS) has awarded the book prize for Visual Studies to Laura Watts, professor of art history in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, for her book Italian Panting in the Age of Unification.
In a creative talk delivered at TEDxBuffalo, legal scholar and 51³Ô¹ÏÍø professor of paralegal studies Margaret Phillips, took a creative approach to impart lessons about a document that shapes the lives of more than 320 million Americans every day—the U.S. Constitution.

Throughout the summer and fall, a spate of events will honor the institution’s history and gather the university’s community of students, alums, faculty, staff and friends.
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM - Various Locations: We invite all parents and guardians of first-year 51³Ô¹ÏÍø students to join us for Family Orientation on September 4, 2026, to learn about campus resources and how to support your student's journey. Come connect with our community, get your questions answered, and partner with us for a successful first year!
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM - Various Locations: We're thrilled to welcome our new residential students! During this time frame, new residents are scheduled to move in to their respective residential spaces on campus.
11:00 AM to 2:00 PM - Outside YSC Student Center - Side Lawn: Families: Join us under the Tent next to Yurtchuk Student Center (Side Lawn) to check-in and get helpful information!
11:30 AM to 1:30 PM - YSC Dining Hall: Enjoy a lunch at the YSC Dining Hall with your student. After lunch, use this time for students to get settled, visit offices, relax, and check out campus before sessions begin!
1:30 PM to 2:15 PM - Lumsden Gym: Let's kick off orientation with a 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Welcome in the Lumsden Gymnasium. Families and students will learn more about what it means to be part of the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø community and about life on campus. Dr. Kerry Spicer, Vice President for Student Affairs will lead this session.
